SHADOWS: One my most “painterly” pieces. I love the movement across the canvas of light, shadow, walls, and clouds. The two trees obviously represent shadows of one another as well. To me, the greatest beauties of Scotland and Northern England are the endless rock walls, hand-crafted without mortar in most cases. They arise from the earth so they don’t offend as fences do. But they give measure and a sense of mystery. I always wonder: who built these walls and how long ago?
